Sports Activities

Taking part in one of the varied sports offered by the Air Cadet Organisation is a great way to get fit, learn to work as part of a team and make some great new friends! Sport is a core ACO activity and you can even participate at national level representing the Air Cadets!

The Air Cadet Organisation offers a wide rang of core sports activities for you to get your teeth into. From athletics to hockey and rugby there’s a lot to choose from. Most Squadrons also offer access to a wide variety of other sport too (such as mountain biking and archery), some of which you could even use towards your Duke of Edinburgh Physical section.

Sport with the Air Cadet Organisation is a great way to get to know some of your fellow cadets in a more social setting. The sports that we offer are great at developing teamwork and there’s nothing better than beating another local Squadron at a sports competition! If you have a keen interest in sport you can even apply for selection for the Wing sports teams for a number of sports.

The Corps official sports are:

  • Football
  • Rugby
  • Hockey
  • Netball
  • Swimming
  • Athletics
  • Cross Country

If you want to be more involved in sport the selection for the Wing team could see you progressing to represent the Air Cadet Organisation nationally against sports teams from the Army and Sea Cadets. By representing your Wing, Region or the Corps at sport you will be awarded a “Sporting Blue” for your sportswear. As well as taking part in sporting activities, the ACO offers the opportunity to gain qualifications in sports leadership.

Developing Others

After you have been a cadet for a while you have the opportunity to train and gain qualifications in sports leadership such as the Community Sports Leaders Award. Qualifications like this enable you to train other cadets to safely take part in sports as well as helping the Squadron to prepare for sporting competitions at local and national levels. If you want to know more about sporting activities and the opportunities available to cadets speak to a member of your Squadron staff.
